IMO GOVT TO LAUNCH SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT SCHEMES FOR GRADUATES

Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has disclosed plans by his administration to launch a special Job Schemes which is aimed at creating employment opportunities for graduates and school leavers in the Imo State.

Addressing some Oil and Gas operators at a dinner organized in his honour in Port Harcourt, Rivers State last week, Governor Okorocha explained that his mission is to liaise with industrialists, including Oil and Gas operators to establish oil drilling and fertilizer plants in Imo State so as to revamp the economy and create more jobs. 

He called on industrialists of Imo State origin based in Port Harcourt to consider extending their business to their home State as a way of contributing their quota to the social and economic development of Imo State.

Governor Okorocha commended his Special Adviser on Petroleum, Chief Raph Ekezie for his success in the petroleum industry and attributed the on-going massive development in the Imo State to the genuine efforts of the members of the ‘Rescue Mission’ government which motivated the State government to adopt 73% budgetary provision for capital projects and 27% for recurrent expenditure in the year 2012.

He further stressed that his administration is committed to providing adequate security and conductive working environment for investors. 

In a remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Petroleum and Chairman of Drillog Petro-Dynamics, Chief Raph Ekezie said that the on-going infrastructural and man-power development in Imo State can be described as a ‘revolution in Nigeria’. 

He urged the governor to ensure the sustenance of adequate security and stability of electricity supply so as to attract more investments into the State.

Adding his voice, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Prof. Fabian Osuji said he is certain that anybody who visits Imo State presently will attest to the fact that so much work have already been done.

Also present at the dinner were a group of Oil and Gas operators, including Dr Innocent Ekwem.

SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS THE ELECTION OF ROCHAS OKOROCHA AS IMO STATE GOVERNOR

The Supreme Court in Abuja today upheld the election of Owelle Rochas Okorocha as governor of Imo State.

In its judgment, the apex court decided that the judgment of the Court of Appeal which formed the basis of the appeals to the Supreme Court were nullity because the reasons for the judgments were delivered outside the 60 days allowed by the constitution.

In its place, the Supreme Court held that the judgment of the Imo State Governorship Election Tribunal which had earlier upheld Rochas Okorocha's election subsisted.

Justice Sylvester Ngwuta who delivered the lead judgment cited Sect 285 (7) of the constitution which required that judgment must be delivered within 60 days.

He noted that although the Court of Appeal delivered its judgment within 60 days, it gave the reasons for the judgment outside the 60 days which is contrary to the law therefore rendering the said judgement null and void.

Consequently, the Apex Court struck out the Appeal Court's judgment and re-instated the judgment delivered earlier by the Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
